Cleeve Hill Solar Farm – Renewable Energy Infrastructure Protection

Overview

Located on the North Kent Coast, the Cleeve Hill Solar Farm project forms part of the UK’s largest solar farm initiative — designed to generate renewable electricity for thousands of homes nationwide. The site’s coastal setting presented unique engineering challenges, requiring durable and compliant protection against tidal influences, water ingress, and flood risk.

Challenge

Due to its proximity to nearby water sources and the potential for coastal flooding, the project required a robust 300/500 mm granite rock armour capable of withstanding environmental exposure and providing long-term protection for critical solar infrastructure. The material needed to be produced, sized, and delivered efficiently from inland sources while maintaining tight delivery schedules across both weekdays and weekends.

Solution

Redrox Quarry Products were appointed to source and supply the required 300/500 mm armour stone.
The stone was blasted directly from a granite quarry face, then pecked and graded to specification before being loaded and dispatched from the Midlands. Over the course of the project, Redrox successfully sourced, produced, hauled, and delivered approximately 5,000 tonnes of granite rock armour using a combination of tipper and articulated deliveries.
This coordinated approach ensured continuous supply, on-time delivery, and full compliance with project requirements.

Outcome

The Cleeve Hill Solar Farm project reinforces Redrox’s commitment to supporting the UK’s transition to clean energy by providing reliable, specification-led aggregate solutions for renewable infrastructure.
By ensuring timely delivery of high-performance coastal protection stone, Redrox helped safeguard the site’s longevity — enabling sustainable power generation for thousands of UK homes well into the future.
